Shipyard gantry cranes are special-purpose gantry cranes with large spans, high lifting capacities, and high safety features. They are mainly installed in dry docks/slipways or section assembly areas for the lifting, relocation, turning, and assembly of giant sections (such as hull sections, superstructures, and compartment modules) during shipbuilding. Shipyard gantry cranes are not merely material handling tools, but core hubs of modern shipbuilding processes; their parameters determine the shipyard's "hard power."
Installation Location: Spanning the dock walls on both sides of the dry dock.
Core Mission: To complete the assembly of ship sections, precisely lifting prefabricated hull sections weighing hundreds or even thousands of tons into the dry dock for installation. This is the most technically challenging gantry crane with the most stringent parameter requirements.
Features: Largest lifting capacity (commonly 300-1600 tons, or even higher), large span, high lifting height (must meet the height requirement of the section being lifted from the bottom of the dock to the dock wall), and extremely high requirements for synchronous control.
Installation Location: Spanning both sides of an inclined or horizontal slipway.
Function: Similar to a dock gantry crane, used for sectional lifting and assembly on the slipway. Due to slipway structural limitations, its design and wheel pressure control may be more complex.
Installation Location: In the section manufacturing workshop or open-air prefabrication yard.
Function: Used to transport steel plates and profiles to the production line, and to flip, shift, and pre-assemble small and medium-sized sections. Lifting capacity is relatively small (tens to hundreds of tons), but usage frequency is extremely high (working class A7/A8).
Features: Often equipped with a rotating hook or electromagnetic/vacuum lifting device to achieve precise section flipping.
