Foreword: Inland river shipping is an important part of the comprehensive transportation system and comprehensive utilization of water resources. It plays an important role in promoting economic development in the river basin, optimizing industrial layout, and serving the opening up to the outside world. From January to December 2021, there were a total of 100 inland river ports in China, and their cumulative cargo throughput reached 5,572.75 million tons, accounting for 35.85% of the national port cargo throughput, with a cumulative year-on-year growth rate of 9.9%. (Data source: Industrial Information Network) The cold winter is over, spring is in full bloom, and a new cycle has quietly begun in the growth of all things. At the first modern comprehensive terminal in Xiangyang City, Hubei Province, the Weihua Gate terminal is busy working, adding a touch of vitality to the early spring of 2022.
Since ancient times, Xiangyang has been known as the “Southern Ship and North Horse, the thoroughfare of seven provinces”. As the core port area of Xiangyang Port, Xiaohe Port has significant geographical location and transportation advantages, providing strong support for Xiangyang City, Hubei Province to adjust its transportation structure, reduce logistics costs, and improve comprehensive transportation capabilities. According to Weihua Regional Deputy General Manager Gao Jingbang, the Xiaohe Port Comprehensive Terminal plans to build a total of 21 berths with a designed annual throughput capacity of 15.1 million tons, mainly breakbulk cargo, bulk cargo (including sand and gravel), and containers. The entire port area occupies a coastline length of 2,495 meters and a land area of 1.36 million square meters. At present, the first phase of the Xiaohe Port Comprehensive Terminal has been completed for nearly three months, and the overall operation is smooth. Four general cargo berths and three bulk cargo operation lines are simultaneously operating at full capacity. As of February 25, the port has completed a cumulative cargo throughput of 60,500 tons and a container throughput of 106TEU.
